Little Leah Noel

Kimberly’s due date came and went, but she wasn’t feeling well by the evening. She went to bed early, but with Dottie and I guessing that she wouldn’t make it through the night without being in full blown labor.

Sure enough, at 4:30 am the knock came on our bedroom door, “The doctor wants me to come into the hospital.” Amazing how Dottie and I were instantly up and awake. The “kids” had everything ready and headed out. Dottie and I got ready anticipating the call where Jonathon confirmed that it was the “real deal.”

That started a long 13 hour labor in the hospital for Kimberly.

They do it different now-a-days—and a lot saner. The “birthing room” was large, comfortable, and private for our family to relax as much as we could under the circumstances. The process from beginning to end took place in the same room—much saner than when Dottie had to be somewhat frantically wheeled down the hall all three times because she progressed so quickly to birth from labor.

Finally, though, it was time for Dottie and I to leave the room.

Fortunately, there were chairs for us close by where we could monitor the progress listening to the action. As I had left the room, giving Kimberly a last hug and kiss, she reminded me, “Dad, it’s okay for you to cry if you feel like it.”

When I heard the first cry from our little Leah Noel — I did. Leah Noel made her entrance into the world weighing 7 lbs, 7 ounces, and is 21 inches in length.

Every grandparent will say their grandchild is special and precious. I’ll let you judge from the pictures if I’m stretching it or not.
