Neat Friday—Despite the Sun!

Boy have we come off some great weather—which usually means I end up doing more outside yardwork and outdoor activities (I’m biking more often)—and many others, particularly families do the same. Our attendance drops off quickly during these early nice Spring days that folks have been longing for.

Last Friday was different, though. I watched as a school group had a blast getting their picture taken at the base of our spectrum tree. Just one of the reasons we moved that back in front of COSI. They were juiced and excited before they even stepped into the building, thanks in part to the tree, the sun dazzling off of it and the wind driving it.

They then took some time looking at the terrific pinwheel display in our front “yard.” The pinwheels, planted by our Miracle Gro Cap Scholars as part of an awareness program around child abuse, provide a dramatic and eye-catching attention to the issue.

The scholars had developed a whole program for last Friday evening, called Find Your Voice. They not only put on a great program, but helped draw over 1,300 people into the building for Family Friday night—even with the great weather working against us.

I love it, and I’m getting so much satisfaction watching our Scholars grow from young teens into young men and women! We’re all benefitting in the process.
