Cutting It Down To Size

Came in over the weekend to accept an award for COSI at the Gospel Fest held on our English Plaza and Genoa Park. While here I could check out how we were integrated into the day’s activities. It was the first chance I’ve had to see in a large setting how our recently developed Science Spots work in the public.

The challenge was that even though we think we have the largest outreach program in the country, it is designed for large auditorium/school cafeteria style settings with many volunteers. Nothing you could set up quickly or easily and not have several staff/volunteers needed.

Our new “Science Spots” are more like independent table top activity centers—they seemed to work well. Now I know why they are becoming so popular. I’ve even heard that they’ve been thought of for backyard birthday party entertainment!

Sometimes it takes an event like the Gospel Fest to get me introduced to some of our growing number of new approaches to engaging kids and public with science. Glad I was invited 😉
