The Behind The Scenes Stars

Titanic's Grand Staircase

Titanic's Grand Staircase

It’s amazing that last weekend COSI opened up Thursday morning at 10:00 am to the public and had public and group activities around the clock, 24 hours per day until we closed Sunday at 6:00.  That’s 44 straight hours of operation back and forth between thousands of guests coming to visit during the day and three straight nights of hundreds of overnighters each night.  At the same time that our front line team was managing and keeping COSI clean around that, the team has also been preparing for Titanic.

You might think that it is all carpenters and curators setting up the Titanic exhibition.  Not true.  They leave wood shavings and mess, they leave fingerprints on exhibition cases, and they need everything coming out of the 13 trailers of shipping crates cleaned, vacuumed, and more.  So it is amazing to me how our service department has kept up with all of this.

As I did a walk through on Titanic, I saw our service team going through the entire exhibition to make it sparkle.

Now granted they have gotten the first look at the exhibition 😉  But most of the public, and even some of our team at times, forgets the hard work that goes in behind the scenes to keep us refreshed between multiple events and to prepare for a major exhibition such as Titanic.  So when you come to visit Titanic (you can’t miss it!), or just show up on a Saturday morning (most likely after an overnighter or evening event), please appreciate the work that goes into keeping this 320,000 square foot facility and COSI’s exhibitions all up, running, and continually cleaned.  I’m working to remember that.
