Witness a Miracle a COSI

Hello readers! I’m a new member of the team, working as a Program Counselor with the Miracle-Gro Capital Scholars Program. The past month has truly been an adventure for me, and I’d like to take a moment to share with you some exciting and inspiring news:

Thanks to the generous support of the Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, the Hagedorn Family Foundation, and COSI, the Miracle-Gro Capital Scholars Program will send 38 under-represented, inner-city high school students to college this year! Congratulations to Derek Brown, Kiara Gravely, Ari Toles, and Destinee Whiteside, Jamesia Tucker, Audrianna Johnson, Brooklyn Alexander, Daryia Carson, and Somalia Andrews, who have already received acceptance letters!

In case you don’t know about our program, every Monday through Thursday after school our students meet here to learn life skills and become successful leaders and informed, active citizens. This year is all about college readiness, and boy is that a big task! However, our students are proving ready for it and their diligent work is paying off.

Every day I come to work I am inspired and amazed by the hard work of our students and the passion of my coworkers at COSI. I am honored to be a part of one of the many programs at COSI that focuses on serving the community and providing access to learning. We could not have reached such a level of success without the help of COSI team members and other volunteers. We would particularly like to thank Melissa, our intern from OSU, and Morralee Holzapfel, a volunteer from OCAN (Ohio College Access Network) for their consistent, dedicated service.

Thanks to COSI’s commitment to education, our students are provided with a safe, stimulating environment in which to grow—how great is that? I still cannot believe I have the opportunity to work in a place that so highly values discovery, innovation, and teamwork. I hope you will share my excitement about the miraculous things that are happening here at COSI!
