Shaking Us Up!

We were startled here at COSI by the trembling of our building that persisted for several minutes.  You don’t expect earthquake tremors in Columbus, but this is a reminder of how dynamic the world has been over its life (remember—at one time all the continents were jammed together—look at how South America and Africa would fit together like jigsaw puzzle pieces).

Our friends in Washington, DC clearly had a much stronger influence of the quake which was near them—which explains why our conference call with colleagues in DC never happened as they evacuated their building.

When an earthquake takes place scientists quickly try to gather as much data from as far away as any impact is felt.
